Many of you may be familiar with the Ebony and Jet Financial Collapse. Several Traditional Print Media Companies are sharing a similar fate simply because they lacked innovation and vision. Recently, The Tennessean (local Newspaper Company) has been contacting me trying to get me to purchase a newspaper subscription. Even though traditional readers may continue to renew subscriptions, myself and others from my generation would rather get this same information for free from their website. It’s more accessible.
What Print Media Companies can do is create a promotion for every current subscriber to have a free online subscription, in order to cut back on print. Still offer print subscriptions, but offer online subscriptions as well as an alternative for new more savvy consumer-subscribers, especially, since online media is the future of media anyway. Also, offer “traditional” advertisement space on the website as you would in a newspaper or magazine, but also offer phone applications that allow consumers to be able to view information from their phone as well.
Online media may actually offer Media Magazine Companies an easy way to expand. Since articles are being updated on a website instead of print, this will allow the company to launch more up to date articles instead of just monthly additions. This will allow these companies actually to compete with daily news companies and offer “Breaking News Coverage” as well. You can run more current articles instead of monthly issues, it’s cost effective which will free up monies that can be directed to local, regional, national & international coverage which increases your reader base which will increase revenue, and it’s more environmentally conscious.
We grew up in the technological advancement era; therefore, we use the information highway to get our news and information. Therefore, the Magazine and Newspaper Companies that successfully gather a significant online subscription reader base will be the one(s) to survive this rapidly changing yet innovative Information Age. It’s a win, win for everybody; the business, the environment (less paper being printed), and the consumer. Not to mention, this recent phenomenon is actually opening doors for new innovative businesses such as GUERRILLA TECHKNOWLEDGE LLC that understand these facts. One Major rule of business is to “Operate in the present with the future in sight.”
